I'm a senior software engineer at Snowbound Solutions, working across product and engineering on SnowObs and National Avalanche Center forecasting tools. I'm usually involved from figuring out what to build through shipping it and learning from the people using it.
Previously, I joined KITE as its second engineer and went on to lead engineering as CTO through the employee buyout into Nucla. I also run Kaska, an independent engineering practice.
I'm increasingly interested in how software shapes what people notice, trust, and do, and how we can evaluate whether it's helping.

Avalanche teams need to agree on what a forecast means for the day's work. I built a SnowObs workflow that connects the hazard assessment with an operation's planned actions.
I worked through the problem with avalanche practitioners, designed and built the workflow, and led the analysis and paper describing its use. The workflow builds on published avalanche-risk research. Read the ISSW 2026 paper.
Forecasting tools and APIs at Snowbound Solutions
I lead modernization of forecasting APIs and publishing tools, working directly with forecasters and partner developers. That includes planning changes, handling feedback and bugs, and keeping existing integrations working as the software changes. The platform serves 22 of 24 U.S. avalanche centers.
NAC platform, FY2026 (July 2025–June 2026): 980,000 forecast-widget users, 5.4 million widget pageviews, and approximately 138 million forecast and observation API requests.

I led engineering for an enterprise vendor-intelligence platform and stayed hands-on with customer integrations. At Nucla, I designed and deployed a multi-tenant MCP service connecting company data to AI tools, with scoped access, prompt-injection defenses, and evaluation suites.
